This was my first adventure through Maya for making particle effects. We were given a scene that was textured and lighted for the most part. I created the smoke, the steam coming from the lava bucket and the sparks that come out from the grinder. I had some trouble getting the spark color to show up in the render even though I did add an RGB PP ramp. I might have missed a setting or a step when adding them in. The whole scene was composited in after effects. I got a sound clip for both the fire and the sparks, but the fire was too low to be heard. I had lots of fun, but got worried when my fire didn't look so nice. Just don't forget those samples to be turned up! Any critiques would be greatly appreciated.

  1. Wow Luisa! Your scene looks pretty awesome! I love how the smoke turned out. It's just the right level of transparency and it's not too distracting to take away from the scene. The sparks are super great too! Adding the grinding sound really made me feel like I was in a workshop. As far as the color goes, it could not have shown up because of how you rendered it. Did you use Mental Ray or Maya Hardware? I know that the color definitely does not show up in Mental Ray, because I had a similar issue when doing render tests. I ended up using Maya Hardware, so maybe that would have worked. I also thing that the fire needs to slow down just a tad. Right now, it seems to be competing with the sparks, as far as speed goes. Still, overall, this scene looks so cool! You definitely put some hard work into it!
